Well insured on the road - what should I bear in mind?

Cover in the EU, EEA and Switzerland

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) guarantees you uncomplicated medical care when traveling to EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You will find your EHIC on the back of your insurance card.

Travel to Turkey, Tunisia and Bosnia-Herzegovina

For these countries you need special foreign health insurance certificates, which you can easily order via your online office or the ZF BKK Service App.

Great Britain after Brexit

Your EHIC will also remain valid in the UK. A corresponding agreement between the EU and the UK will continue to secure your medical care.

Outside the EU or without an agreement

Unfortunately, we cannot cover any costs in countries outside the EU or without an agreement. We strongly recommend that you take out private international health insurance.

Invoice from abroad?

If the EHIC or foreign health insurance certificate is not accepted locally, you will receive a private invoice. Submit this to us - we will check the reimbursement for you. For comprehensive protection, we also recommend private international health insurance.

Inform your employer or the employment agency immediately and send us the medical certificate within one week.

No, we are not allowed to cover these costs. We therefore strongly recommend that you take out private international health insurance.

Yes, we contribute to treatment costs in the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, provided the services are also approved in Germany. Please contact us in good time in advance. This regulation does not apply to Turkey, Tunisia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
