Second medical opinion

For certain procedures, you can obtain an independent second medical opinion. This will give you more clarity and enable you to make the best decision together with your doctor. Ask for information and all important documents such as x-rays, laboratory results, patient file and the report of findings.

You can obtain a second opinion for the following procedures:

  • Tonsil operations (tonsillectomy/tonsillotomy)
  • Removal of the uterus (hysterectomy)
  • Arthroscopic operations on the shoulder
  • Insertion of a knee endoprosthesis
  • Interventions on the spine
  • Amputation for diabetic foot
  • Catheter-based electrophysiological heart examination and ablation of the heart
  • Implantation of a pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy)

Doctors with a license to provide second opinions can be found on the website of the medical on-call service.

Cost accounting

Your medical treatment is billed directly and conveniently via your insurance card. Exceptions are our TOP services and individual health services, which are billed to you privately. We will be happy to advise you personally before your treatment.

Good to know

Individual health services (IGeL) are additional medical services that you have to pay for yourself. Not all of these services are useful. We recommend that you ask your doctor in advance about the benefits, risks and costs. This will help you to decide which additional service is actually worthwhile.

The "IGeL Monitor" provides you with well-founded and independent information on individual health services.
